Overview: Svetlana’s reader is above all a survey of her poetic creativity. In Slovenia, the period in which her poetry was written was marked by modernism and the second avant-garde, which frequently attempted to strip poetry of any kind of mystery and interweave the poetic work with banal levels of thought and existence. In contrast to this, Makarovič sought poetry in the magical, the dark. From the vocabulary and imagery of folk poetry, particularly ballads, she created a magical world of poetry that is at the same time sufficiently concrete and contemporary. Thus in a certain way she was a forerunner of a later period that again felt the need for the magical and spiritual.Less extensive, but no less important, is her creative work for children. Part of the significance of this works lies in the fact that the author’s fairytale menagerie is comparable with her poetic imagery, giving it additional through the diction of the fairytale Makarovič is able to offer commentary that is not at home in laconic poetic form. Taken together they provide a complete picture of the author.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. I liked the main character, though some of the side plots were just okay. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The pacing was a bit slow and I found myself skimming a few pages. It wasn't terrible, just okay. A generous 3 stars.

A very satisfying read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Glad I picked this up.

Really enjoyed this one. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Worth the time and money.

Really enjoyed this one. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Will be looking for more from this author.
